SAN FRANCISCO — Facebook on Tuesday said it soon plans to begin video advertising within members' News Feeds, a move that takes aim at massive spending budgets for television ads. The social-networking giant says in a "short amount of time" marketers will be able to tap into video ads. Facebook is testing out an ad for the film Divergent with a small number of people this week. Shares of Facebook, which touched a new all-time high, rose 1.6% to $54.67 in morning trading action following the news. Facebook's video advertising foray squares off against Google's increased efforts to attract billions of dollars to its massive video-sharing audience at YouTube. "Now, Facebook will rival YouTube as a source of online video ad reach," says Forrester analyst Nate Elliott. Yet Facebook faces a difficult task in finding the line between not outraging its users with abrasive ads and pleasing Wall Street. Underscoring the distinction, Facebook member Jason Damata said, while "I hate auto-play video ads" and would be compelled to not use the site, it will make me want to "buy FB stock because the money this will generate could be considerable and may help them formulate a viable alternative or supplement to TV ad dollars." Facebook's new video ad units could fetch between $1 million and $2.5 million per day to reach the social network's entire audience, according to an ad industry source not authorized to speak on behalf of Facebook. Spending on television ads in the United States is expected to reach $68.5 billion next year, according to eMarketer, up from $66.4 billion this year. U.S. digital video ad spending is expected to soar 39.5% to $5.79 billion in 2014. "Big brands are eagerly awaiting to increase their FB spending through video," says Brian Nowak, an analyst with Susquehanna Financial Group, who increased his price target to $68 from $52 ahead of the announcement. Facebook's video ads will begin running automatically across its News Feed but will remain muted unless people turn on the audio of the ads. The new ad forms will begin on both desktop and mobile. The social network will need to be mindful of not blasting its 1.2 billion members with too many ads. Facebook executives noted on its third-quarter earnings that it had reached its capacity for the number of ads it can serve its audience. "The company hasn't always been smart about testing new ad formats and rolling them out slowly, but that'll be important here to avoid compromising both the user experience and the video ads' effectiveness," says Elliott. Still, Facebook's effort to limit the number of ads in its News Feed could boost ad prices. With restricted supply coming to its ad marketplace that faces improved clicks from advertisement advances, including such video ads sold at a premium, prices are poised to climb in Facebook's auction-buying format, say analysts.

He was nicknamed ‘Osibisa’ after a Central African Band that was famous in the sixties and seventies. The toilets often overflowed with sewage, but under cubicles, Osibisa would hurl bucket-loads of water like ‘live grenades’ to hated enemy camps. Cleaning those facilities would have daunted a lesser man, but Osibisa was unperturbed by the entire ‘hullabaloo’ that came with that tasking ordeal. Every time and everywhere, you’d find Osibisa ‘well-armed’ with his notorious little ‘war cry’ of a tune, ‘humming’ it away through chores. He needed no lyrics, a song sheet or a music director! All he needed was a broom to brush off the stubborn filth and toilet chemicals for ‘the kill.’ ‘Well-armed’ with his little ‘hum’, nothing was any big deal! Osibisa would ‘hum’ away at anything the day ‘threw’ his way. It didn’t matter that the day didn’t ‘turn up’ right, he seemed to ‘hum in’ another day at will. It didn’t matter that ‘Mark’ chided him often; Osibisa seemed to ‘fix’ himself a ‘stiff glass’ of his favourite ‘song’ and drown his sorrows in his ‘hum’! The ‘battalion’ of students would hurl abuses at him, but he’d come well prepared for them to ‘bring it on’, and promptly unleash his ‘hum’ their way. It may sound punitive to some, but that little piece of a tune seemed to be the only ‘game plan’ Osibisa had formulated, to work his way to retirement. That ‘hum’ was the psychological ‘drill’ he needed to boost his everyday morale. It was the mental ‘nose mask’ that blocked off the stench of unbearable smelly loos. It was like the only ‘insurance policy’ Osibisa had, to handle any financial crisis. As long as he could ‘hum’ Osibisa remained motivated to keep putting food on his family’s table. If Osibisa could ‘hum’, then he could make it through anything! He only needed to clear his throat and ‘hum’ his way tthrough another month and the years would come ‘flying’ past; without denigrating his enthusiasm. The ‘hum’ consoled him through many decades in defecated smelly toilets, a lifetime of menial labour, and condescending snobbish glances. He couldn’t read or even write it, and he would often ‘hum’ it out of tune, but he faced each daily ordeal with his favourite ‘hum’……

Valentine day was the day I arrived in Nairobi dressed in a Maroon and cream Kaunda suit_ the closest I had to Red. That is a story I have told before. Five Valentine's ago, while working for Baraka FM I bought my first car a Maroon Subaru - I did not know how to drive. Dad was very clear- each of us should work hard and drive their own car. Instead of teaching us how to drive he taught us how to milk, plant and grow banana's,coffee, maize and beans.(For that am always grateful) Anyway, when I picked the car Martin Gitau drove my first car for me. I Decided I had to know how to drive in five days. I paid a driving school - day two I was out. I could not stand the slow pace. The next day I moved the car, It was manual by the way and drove abit..The car moved and by 2.30pm despite stalling several times - I took a move. I drove towards South B, of course stalling endless times. There were no incidents. Except that of course everytime I changed gears the car stopped because I did not know how to balance. I did not have a Learner badge or a driving licence, that was of course illegal and wrong. On the way back after the Upper Hill roundabout, just after the Memorial graveyard- the car stalled.Luckily the traffic was not very tight. This time I pulled the handbrake, I just could not ascend the steep hill. So I opened the bonnet and pretended to repair the car...For a whole one hour until traffic eased abit. I then literally drove up with the handbrake on. The next incident was next to KIE, in a panic move I confused the brake for the 'mafuta' and in the proccess I ended up in a ditch as I swerved off the road to avoid hitting other cars. It was Valentine, so again I was in luck, my bumper was done but the car was still okay. With the help of a few by-standers I was back on the road - by now my confidence was gone. The rest of the drive home was slow and closer to Zero speed for every KM covered. Just when I thought I was done when I got home...I simply could not park. Eventually with the help of a friend I did. Valentine was the first day I drove in Nairobi. Four days later I was a qualified self taught driver I love the lessons Nairobi taught me and the toughest were on Valentine day. Blaze Binder was fined $1500 in St Gallen court this week after posting the images online in February, after the nursing home had shut.
The 37-year-old, who was born in the Philippines and is married to a Swiss man, captioned the photo: “Guess if she is asleep or dead.”
“I’ll give you a hint, I’m the soul robber,” wrote Binder, who advertises her services as a dominatrix and has numerous photos of herself posing in fetish outfits on Facebook.
She also wrote: “Their time is up, gonna send them to Hell where some belong, the rest in the compost pit for fertilisers hehehe.”
When another Facebook user complained about the shocking images she said death was normal and she could post whatever she wanted on her wall.
But the court thought otherwise, finding her guilty of violating the peace of the dead and a breach of trust.
She was also given a suspended fine equivalent to 120 days wages.
The son of the nursing home resident featured in the photos, Rudi Forrer, told the newspaper Blick he was shocked by what had happened.
“I do not understand for the life of me how such a thing can happen in a retirement home,” he said.
Binder said the images were “beautiful”.

  A new feature in Google Inc's Gmail will result in some users receiving messages from people with whom they have not shared their email addresses, raising concerns among some Google products users eg Gmail,blogger blogspot and google social media Google+.
The change, which Google announced on Thursday, broadens the list of contacts available to Gmail users so it includes both the email addresses of their existing contacts, as well as the names of people on the Google+ social network. As a result, a person can send an email directly to friends, and strangers, who use Google+.
Google is increasingly trying to integrate its Google+, a two-and-a-half-year old social network that has 540 million active users, with its other services. When consumers sign up for Gmail, the company's Web-based email service, they are now automatically given a Google+ account.
Google said the new feature will make it easier for people who use both services to communicate with their friends.
"Have you ever started typing an email to someone only to realize halfway through the draft that you haven't actually exchanged email addresses?" the company said in a blog post announcing the feature. "You're in luck, because now it's easier for people using Gmail and Google+ to connect over email."
Google said that users who did not wish to receive email messages from other people on Google+ could switch the settings so that they receive messages only from people they have added to their networks of friends or from no one at all.
Some privacy advocates said Google should have made the new feature "opt-in," meaning that users should explicitly agree to receive messages from other Google+ users, rather than being required to manually change the setting.
Marc Rotenberg, the executive director of non-profit Electronic Privacy Information Center, called the new feature "troubling."
"There is a strong echo of the Google Buzz ," he said, referring to a social networking service that Google launched in 2010. Buzz initially used its Gmail users' contact lists to create social networks that the rest of the world could see, leading to an uproar and ultimately a settlement with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission.
Google said the new feature would not expose the email addresses of any Google+ users to strangers. Emails from strangers on Google+ will be routed to a special section within the recipients mailbox that is separate from messages from friends and other contacts. If the recipient does not reply to the message, Gmail will block any future messages from that person.
A Google spokeswoman said the company planned to send an email to all Google+ users during the next two days alerting them to the change and explaining how to change their settings.
One exception to the new feature is celebrities on Google+, who are followed by a large number of fans.
